Jamie Feenstra enjoys using his hands to solve computer and electronics related problems. His dream is to wake up every morning, look forward to going to work, and love what he is doing. Jamie became involved in skilled technologies because it was a natural fit.

Jamie always worked hard especially while attending St. Clair College for Mechanical Engineering Technology - Mechatronics. He finds that he has the ability to understand all of the complicated things that others try to forget. His drive and inspiration comes from his parents and grandparents who have shown him that "through hard work and determination, you can achieve your dreams and goals."

Jamie has already made an outstanding impression at the Skills/Compétences Canada-Ontario Provincial and Canadian Skills Competitions over the past two years. In 2007, Jamie and his partner were awarded gold medals at the regional and provincial Skills/Compétences Canada-Ontario Competitions and then again at the Canadian Skills Competition. This medal sweep was repeated in 2008.

"At the 40th WorldSkills Competition,  I want to prove that I have the necessary skills to perform under extreme pressure. My goal is to finish at least in the top ten."

The skills that Jamie requires to work in this trade include knowledge of information technology applications and programmable machine control systems that enable communication between machines, equipment and people. These skills are invaluable to the manufacturing industry, combining pneumatics, mechanics, electronically controlled systems, programming, robotics, and system development.  Jamie attributes his success to being capable of working well with others while being able to take directions when required.

Jamie would like to work in the chemical industry in the future. In the meantime, he continues to work hard perfecting his technical skills and spends his spare time drag racing, restoring old cars, driving motorcycles and playing hockey and baseball.
