Competitor Profile

Ross Anderson gained a Gold Medal in Light Fabrication at the SkillEX 2006 National Finals Competition held in September 2006.  Ross completed his Level 4 National Certificate in Light Fabrication in 2005. He is currently employed by ‘Total Sheetmetals NZ Ltd' and is based in Palmerston North. Ross developed a passion for engineering and hands on work early in life whilst growing up on the family farm.

He enjoys the variety of work involved with his job and the opportunity to meet different people within the industry. He aims to be a top tradesmen and believes his experience in Japan will enhance his personal development and gain him recognition within the trade.

Becoming an apprentice is a great way to become a skilled professional whilst remaining debt free and Ross would encourage any school leaver to follow in his path and enter the SkillEX competitions. Ross really enjoyed the opportunity to apply his skills and benchmark his abilities against the best in New Zealand. Now, he is keen to apply his skills against the best in the world.

Ross's ultimate goal is to win Gold at the WorldSkills Finals and then he hopes to set up his own business; he believes that competing in the SkillEX competitions has given him the confidence to achieve both.
