The youngest in a family of three, Guillaume Grenier has always had a passion
for mechanics. He wanted to learn as much as he could about working with all
types of materials such as plastic and metal. This is what motivated him to
become a molder specializing in computer numerically controlled (CNC) turning.
Guillaume attended the "Centre Professionnelle de l'envolée" in numerical
control and mould making where he learned about creating the moulds for plastic
pieces in three dimensions (3D). This type of work needs to be done with extreme
precision, which is what Guillaume likes best about the trade.
First learning about the Compétences Québec Provincial Competition through
his school, Guillaume was eager to participate and test his level of skill. His
performances at the regional, provincial and Canadian Skills Competitions
qualified him for the 40th WorldSkills Competition in Calgary. He will travel as
a part of Team Canada to represent Canada in CNC Turning.
" I am looking forward to proving
my level of skill while competing against the best in the world. I think that my
natural abilities and analytical skills will help me to be successful in
Calgary."
Currently working as a mold expert, Guillaume is preparing his skills for the
WorldSkills Competition. He enjoys the trade very much because there is not a
lot of repetition in his daily tasks.
